Important Conditions And Exclusions Relating to Health
Making Your Declarations Before You Go
The terms of this insurance is based upon the information provided by You to Us. The policy contains conditions relating to health of the people travelling. You must take reasonable care to answer all questions put to You, about the health of the people travelling, honestly, accurately and to the best of Your knowledge. If You do not understand the meaning of a question put to You or if You do not know the answer it is vital that you tell Us. Once cover has been arranged You must immediately notify Us of any changes to the information that has previously been provided. Failure to provide full and accurate information before You take out the insurance or when circumstances change could invalidate the cover and may mean any claim will be rejected. In such cases, we will apply the Consumer Insurance (Disclosure and Representations) Act 2012, which means Your claim may be partially or fully denied. If these rules are applied to Your claim, we will explain the reasons in detail. If You are declaring on behalf of another person You must ensure You are fully aware of their medical history.
Medical Health Requirements You Must Tell Us if You or Any Person to be Insured Under the Policy has:
- Ever suffered from, been diagnosed with, or treated for any:
- Cancerous condition
- Respiratory and or lung condition (including but not limited to asthma or COPD)
- Diabetes, heart or circulatory conditions (problems with blood flow, including strokes, high blood pressure, and cholesterol), heart attack, angina, transient ischaemic attack, ischemic heart disease, or any other heart condition and/or brain haemorrhage
- received an organ transplant or dialysis
- psychological conditions such as stress, anxiety, depression, or psychiatric condition such as eating disorders, drug or alcohol abuse or mental instability.
- In the last two years:
- been a registered in or out-patient.
- been prescribed medication or required medical treatment.
- had any routine review, medical test, or check up for any previously diagnosed Medical Condition.
Excluded Medical Conditions
We will not cover you for any Medical Condition or disability (pre-existing or otherwise) if:
- You or anyone in your party are currently on a waiting list for treatment or investigation for a diagnosed condition.
- You are currently awaiting any treatment or investigation for an undiagnosed condition. (i.e are awaiting an initial diagnosis for symptoms you currently have)
- You or anyone to be insured under the policy is travelling against the advice of a medical practitioner or travelling with the intention of obtaining medical treatment or consultation abroad, or travelling whilst unfit to travel.
- You have received a terminal prognosis
Change in State of Health
You must tell us if Your state of health changes (i.e. if You develop a new Medical Condition) at the earliest opportunity and consult with your medical practitioner but in any case before You book or commence Your trip, or pay the balance or any further instalments for Your trip.

We will tell You if Your change in state of health will affect Your insurance, premium, and if cover can continue.
If you need to cancel Your trip or we cannot cover Your Medical Conditions, we will advise You of Your options, which include but are not limited to the circumstances below:
- cancelling Your We will arrange a proportionate/partial refund providing You have not/will not make a claim (this is likely to apply where You have an annual policy, no trips booked and we cannot cover Your Medical Conditions).
- making a claim under the Change in health cover section (this is likely to apply where You do not want to cancel Your trip and you are able to purchase alternative insurance).
- making a cancellation claim for any pre-booked trips. This is likely to apply where you:
- have been given medical advice not to travel; and/or
- are aware of any reason why a booked trip may need to be cancelled or cut short.
If You also need to alter or amend Your policy (other than a change of name or address, or the addition of another child under a policy that already covers children) for any other reason than a change in health, You may be required re-declare your conditions and pay an additional premium. You will be charged the full difference in premium based on the changes You have requested, Your Medical Conditions at the time we agree to any change or alteration of Your policy and the original premium paid.
Please note, throughout the policy ‘You’ includes all insured persons as shown in definitions.
Exclusions Relating to the Health of Others
You will not be covered under sections A ‘Cancellation and Curtailment’ or I ‘Extended Travel Disruption’ for any claim due to any illness, injury, disease or condition known to You at the start date of Your cover or at the time of booking a trip (whichever is later) and which affects a close relative, business associate or travel companion or a person You are planning to stay with during Your trip
Travelling when Pregnant
We provide cover under this policy if something unexpected happens. We do not consider pregnancy or childbirth to be an illness or injury.
Cover is automatically provided under section A (Cancellation or Curtailment) and section B (Emergency Medical and other Expenses) for complications of pregnancy and childbirth which developed after You have taken out the policy or booked a Trip (whichever is later), provided Your Medical practitioner and midwife are aware of Your travel plans and that You are not travelling against medical advice.
Complications of pregnancy and childbirth means:
- Toxaemia – toxins in the blood Gestational diabetes – diabetes arising as a result of pregnancy
- Gestational hypertension – high blood pressure arising as a result of pregnancy
- Pre-eclampsia – where you develop high blood pressure, carry abnormal fluid and have protein in your urine during the second half of pregnancy
- Ectopic pregnancy – a pregnancy that develops outside of the uterus
- Molar pregnancy or Hydatidiform mole – a pregnancy in which a tumour develops from the placental tissue
- Post-partum haemorrhage – excessive bleeding following childbirth
- Retained placenta membrane – part or all of the placenta is left behind in the uterus after delivery
- Placental abruption – part or all of the placenta separates from the wall of the uterus
- Hyperemesis gravidarum – excessive vomiting as a result of pregnancy
- Placenta praevia – when the placenta is in the lower part of the uterus and covers part or all of the cervix
- Stillbirth
- Miscarriage
- Emergency caesarean section
- A termination needed for medical reasons
- Premature birth more than 8 weeks (or 16 weeks if You know You are having more than one baby) before the expected delivery date.
Childbirth in or after the 32nd week for a single pregnancy (or 24th week for a multiple pregnancy) is not a complication and is not covered under any section of this policy. Please make sure that Your Medical practitioner and midwife are aware of Your travel plans and that You are not travelling against medical advice. Airlines and ferry/shipping companies including cruise liners have their own restrictions due to health and safety requirements. You should check with them or any other mode of transport
You propose to take before You book. You are not covered for claims arising from pregnancy, where, at the point of checking in for or boarding Your mode of transport, You fail to comply with the carrier’s conveyance of pregnant women policy
